There is significant commitment in Alberta to the sustainability and growth of rural communities. The Government of Alberta continues to resource numerous initiatives to support rural Alberta.

 

High Level

The Town of High Level is a young and vibrant community with a history linked to that of its Aboriginal population and to its resource rich character. With half the population aged 25 years or younger, High Level is a very active and energetic community!

High Level has a population of approximately 4,200 people and serves a trading area of approximately 22,000. High Level offers a wide range of outdoor recreational amenities. Outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy bird watching, photography, cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, fishing and hunting. High Level sits at the centre of boreal forests, agricultural areas and wilderness areas with many surrounding lakes and rivers.

The variety of recreational facilities offered in High Level include: an indoor arena, an indoor swimming pool, a curling rink, 3 tennis courts, 4 ball diamonds and 3 gymnasiums. Also, the 18-hole High Level Golf Course, 5 km north of High Level, boasts a new clubhouse. A skateboard park and live theatre group also offer plenty in the way of entertainment. High Level offers an abundance of natural beauty and activities, but also provides the opportunity to escape to the city via daily flights to major centres from the local airport.

The energy and commitment of the people of High Level is demonstrated in the numerous active community organizations. Community groups offer something for everyone; including Girl Guides and Scouts, High Level Golf and Country Club, High Level Motor Sport Club, Little League, Minor Hockey, Royal Canadian Legion and the Oilman’s Association.

There are several educational facilities in High Level, including three public schools, a public library, and a post secondary college. Career opportunities often draw people to High Level, but it’s the people and the sense of belonging to a lively, growing northern community that make them stay!
