Job Description

The community of High Prairie requires a full time Family Medicine with Anesthetics practitioner to join the existing physician team.

The practice opportunity in High Prairie includes both clinic hours and hospital work. The physician team shares the Emergency Department on call rotation, while each maintaining a clinical family practice.

The newly established Community Health & Wellness Clinic in High Prairie is an interdisciplinary initiative of Alberta Health Services that provides individual and family focused primary health care services that are tailored to meet the health needs of the community. The clinic provides patients access to the most appropriate member of a health care team who can address their health and social needs.

Physicians working at the Community Health & Wellness Clinic thrive in an unhurried environment as part of the greater health care team. Remuneration for clinical services are based on a fee for service model.

Physicians have the option to work flexible hours within the hours of operation of the Community Health & Wellness Clinic or have the option of joining an alternate clinic within the community, with a more traditional model of service.

The High Prairie Health Complex is a 25 Acute Care and 37 Long Term Care Bed facility with approx. 15,000 Emergency Department visits per year. Work is currently underway in High Prairie on a new state of the art hospital facility, which will include 30 Acute Care and 67 Long Term Care Beds.

Qualifications & Experience

Physicians must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians & Surgeons of Alberta to be considered for this position.

Physicians must have current Anesthesia, Emergency Department and Family Practice experience; as well as hold a recognized Diploma in Anesthesia.

Physician Agreement Incentives

A Flat Fee is paid to physicians who practice & reside in this community of $24206.50 per year provided his/her annual income for insured services is greater than $50,000. (Residency conditions apply, including living in the eligible community for nine of the previous twelve months ending on the payment date.) The Variable Fee Premium paid is an additional 22.48% for insured services provided in this community.

Rural, Remote, Northern Program (RRNP) - Please note, payments through the RRNP are capped at $60,000 per physician per year.

Medical Liability Reimbursement - reimburses physicians for their medical liability protection costs less a $1,000 deductible.

Continuing Medical Education - reimburses physicians for eligible continuing medical education costs. Each eligible physician receives a $2,656 annual allotment which can be carried forward for up to three years.

Parental Leave Program - provides $1,063 per week for up to 17 weeks to physician parents of a newborn or newly adopted child.

Business Cost Program - addresses escalating practice costs in community based practices. This fee modifier is added automatically to select office visits and consultations. This program applies across the province and all physicians who provide visit services in an office based setting will receive an additional $2.75 with the exception of Calgary and Airdrie where the fee modifier is $3.25 on select office visits and consultations.
