The successful applicant will join a team of multidisciplinary cancer programs and a team of Medical and Radiation Oncologists, Nurse Practitioners and other medical support staff in the Edmonton and North zones.
CancerControl Alberta, Alberta Health Services provides strong mentorship and professional development support and promotes active academic collaboration between the colleagues in the regional and tertiary Oncology sites in Alberta. CancerControl Alberta is currently working on a clinical trial program initiative in the Community Oncology, and the successful candidate will have an exciting opportunity to contribute to the clinical trial program development.
The successful candidate will be expected to participate in local and provincial tumor team based activities including clinical case reviews at tumor board rounds, annual, provincial tumor team meetings, local quality assurance and quality improvement initiatives.
GPCC is one of four Regional Cancer Centres within CancerControl Alberta’s Community Oncology portfolio. Serving Northern Alberta and Northeastern British Columbia, cancer care practice at the GPCC is centered on 7 major tumor groups, with rarer tumors managed in conjunction with consultation and expertise from the tertiary centers in Edmonton and Calgary. The GPCC location is currently within the Queen Elizabeth II Regional Hospital. A new facility is being built, and the successful candidate will have an opportunity to participate in the upcoming opening of the new GPCC within the new Regional Hospital in 2019.
CancerControl Alberta, Alberta Health Services offers an attractive compensation, benefits and relocation assistance package. The annual compensation will be calculated in accordance with the CancerControl Alberta Physician compensation grid for Medical Oncologists $314,781.00 - $453,117.00 dependent on qualifications, training and experience.
Based on the primary residence, the successful applicant may be eligible for Canada Student Loan forgiveness under the Federal Government program for family doctors and nurses. The successful applicant may also be eligible for the Federal Government’s Northern Resident Deduction, as Grande Prairie is included in the prescribed intermediate zone.
Qualifications & Experience
The successful applicant will be expected to deliver excellent patient care and must be eligible for licensure in Alberta and must have obtained Fellowship in Medical Oncology from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada by the time of appointment.

A Flat Fee is paid to physicians who practice & reside in this community of $17604.72 per year provided his/her annual income for insured services is greater than $50,000. (Residency conditions apply, including living in the eligible community for nine of the previous twelve months ending on the payment date.) The Variable Fee Premium paid is an additional 16.36% for insured services provided in this community.
Rural, Remote, Northern Program (RRNP) - Please note, payments through the RRNP are capped at $60,000 per physician per year.
Retention Benefit - supports and promotes the retention of physicians in Alberta by rewarding their continuous years of service to Albertans. Physicians receive between $5,141 and $12,852 depending on their years of service to Albertans.
Medical Liability Reimbursement - reimburses physicians for their medical liability protection costs less a $1,000 deductible.
Continuing Medical Education - reimburses physicians for eligible continuing medical education costs. Each eligible physician receives a $2,656 annual allotment which can be carried forward for up to three years.
Parental Leave Program - provides $1,063 per week for up to 17 weeks to physician parents of a newborn or newly adopted child.
Business Cost Program - addresses escalating practice costs in community based practices. This fee modifier is added automatically to select office visits and consultations. This program applies across the province and all physicians who provide visit services in an office based setting will receive an additional $2.75 with the exception of Calgary and Airdrie where the fee modifier is $3.25 on select office visits and consultations.
