Adult Psychiatrist - Operational Stress Injury Clinic & Edmonton Adult Mental Health Clinic
Edmonton Alberta – Full Time

Alberta Health Services, in partnership with the University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry is inviting applications from Adult Psychiatrists to join the Operational Stress Injury Clinic & the Edmonton Adult Mental Health Clinic primarily at the 108th Street location, in the Department of Addiction and Mental Health, Edmonton Zone.
The Edmonton Operational Stress Injury (OSI) Clinic is one of ten clinics funded by the Government of Canada. It is part of a national network of OSI clinics, funded by Veterans Affairs Canada. The Edmonton OSI Clinic provides specialized addiction and mental health services to eligible Veterans, Canadian Armed Forces and RCMP members, and their families, living with operational stress injuries. This includes but is not limited to; posttraumatic stress disorder, anxiety disorders, depression, and addictions. The clinic offers diagnosis, standardized assessment, evidence informed treatment, psycho-educational programs, and individual, group, and family treatment. Duties include, but are not limited to; a full range of diagnostic services including completion of assessments and forms for Veterans Disability Award/Pension applications, preparation of diagnostic assessments, preparation of initial and updated treatment plans, formulating and providing individual and group treatments using the funder approved evidence informed psychotherapeutic and pharmacological options, and planning for follow-up care after completion of treatment.
The position will also entail providing consultation services for clients in the Edmonton Adult Mental Health Clinic primarily at the 108th Street location. The psychiatrist would be participating in the post-discharge follow-up program and in the regular general adult clinic. The post- discharge program is part of the policy related to care transition which requires patients discharged from acute care to be assessed by a psychiatrist and/or mental health therapist within 7 days of their discharge from hospital. In the regular general adult clinic, the psychiatrist will provide consultation services and follow-up for patients who have been referred by a Mental Health Therapist. There would also be the opportunity for the psychiatrist to work at our 24/7 Access clinic which opens in November 2018 and would be located at the Anderson Hall which is on the Royal Alexandra Hospital campus. It is a requirement for this position that the successful applicant participate in the community on-call program which will provide 24/7 psychiatric coverage for the 24/7 Access clinic at Anderson Hall.
The successful candidate will be expected to participate in weekly team meetings and provide support to team clinicians as required including in the community. There will be opportunities to work in collaboration with other psychiatrists and inter-disciplinary team members.
This positon reports to the Zone Clinical Department Section Chief as well as to the Zone Clinical Department Head, through to the Edmonton Zone Medical Director, Alberta Health Services. This appointment will be 0.5 FTE a salaried based at OSI Clinic and 0.5 FTE fee-for-service at 108th Street Edmonton Adult Mental Health Clinic.
Candidates must have an MD or equivalent and must have or be eligible for specialist licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta. The incumbent will operate as an equal member of an interdisciplinary team, consulting with peers, supervisors and other professionals. A proven track record of mentoring faculty members and trainees and collaborating is preferred.
The successful applicant will be expected to apply for a Clinical Faculty Appointment in the Department of Psychiatry, University of Alberta, which will be considered under a separate process through the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry.

Physician Agreement Incentives

A Flat Fee is paid to physicians who practice & reside this community of $0 per year provided his/her annual income for insured services is greater than $50,000. (Residency conditions apply, including living in the eligible community for nine of the previous twelve months ending on the payment date.) The Variable Fee Premium paid is an additional 0% for insured services provided in this community.

Rural, Remote, Northern Program (RRNP) - Please note, payments through the RRNP are capped at $60,000 per physician per year.

Medical Liability Reimbursement - reimburses physicians for their medical liability protection costs less a $1,000 deductible.

Continuing Medical Education - reimburses physicians for eligible continuing medical education costs. Each eligible physician receives a $2,656 annual allotment which can be carried forward for up to three years.

Parental Leave Program - provides $1,063 per week for up to 17 weeks to physician parents of a newborn or newly adopted child.

Business Cost Program - addresses escalating practice costs in community based practices. This fee modifier is added automatically to select office visits and consultations. This program applies across the province and all physicians who provide visit services in an office based setting will receive an additional $2.75 with the exception of Calgary and Airdrie where the fee modifier is $3.25 on select office visits and consultations.
