Adult Psychiatrist ––Community Mental Health Clinics – Edmonton Zone
The University of Alberta, and the Department of Psychiatry in collaboration with Alberta Health Services is inviting applications for a General Adult Psychiatrist with an interest in a community focused practice. We presently have a position for one full-time community based General Adult Psychiatrist.
The position will entail providing consultation services for clients in the Edmonton Adult Mental Health Clinics including but not limited to clinics in St. Albert, Leduc and Sherwood Park. Clinical work locations may change dependent on the outcome of ongoing reforms to community mental health services within the zone and the resulting human resource needs. All community clinics operate under the Community Mental Health Services and provide service to the Zones vulnerable adults with complex and chronic mental health needs.
The successful candidate will be expected to participate in weekly team meetings and provide support to team clinicians as required. There will be opportunities to work in collaboration with other psychiatrists and inter-disciplinary team members. The successful candidate will be required to participate in on-call coverage for the proposed 24/7 community urgent care clinic.
It is the expectation of this position that the successful applicant will participate in quality improvement initiatives within the program. Clinics are staffed by multi-disciplinary teams and the physician as part of the team will participate in clinical improvement initiatives as well as provide clinical leadership for members of the team. Remuneration is based on a fee-for service basis as well as sessional payments to cover travel time to client homes and non-billable activities.
Qualifications:
Successful candidates will be expected to be actively involved in resident training, including seeking a Clinical Academic Colleague Appointment within the Department of Psychiatry, which will be considered a separate process via the University of Alberta.
The successful candidates must have or be eligible for specialist licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta. Preferred candidates will have completed advanced training in General Adult Psychiatry or have a General Adult Psychiatry background, and must have specialist qualifications, such as FRCPC or equivalent.
Candidates with an interest in working as part of an interdisciplinary team, enthusiasm with teaching and experience in leadership roles are preferred.
This position is sponsorship eligible should the preferred candidate require a Practice Readiness Assessment. In this event, a Return of Service Agreement is required

Physician Agreement Incentives

A Flat Fee is paid to physicians who practice & reside this community of $0 per year provided his/her annual income for insured services is greater than $50,000. (Residency conditions apply, including living in the eligible community for nine of the previous twelve months ending on the payment date.) The Variable Fee Premium paid is an additional 0% for insured services provided in this community.

Rural, Remote, Northern Program (RRNP) - Please note, payments through the RRNP are capped at $60,000 per physician per year.

Medical Liability Reimbursement - reimburses physicians for their medical liability protection costs less a $1,000 deductible.

Continuing Medical Education - reimburses physicians for eligible continuing medical education costs. Each eligible physician receives a $2,656 annual allotment which can be carried forward for up to three years.

Parental Leave Program - provides $1,063 per week for up to 17 weeks to physician parents of a newborn or newly adopted child.

Business Cost Program - addresses escalating practice costs in community based practices. This fee modifier is added automatically to select office visits and consultations. This program applies across the province and all physicians who provide visit services in an office based setting will receive an additional $2.75 with the exception of Calgary and Airdrie where the fee modifier is $3.25 on select office visits and consultations.
