The University of Alberta, and the Department of Psychiatry in collaboration with Alberta Health Services is inviting applications for General Adult Psychiatrist with an interest in a primarily community focused practice. We presently have a position for one full-time community based General Adult Psychiatrist.
The position will entail providing leadership and direct patient care for clients served by the Inner City Support team. This team operates under the Intensive Community Mental Health Service and provides service to our most vulnerable adults with complex and chronic mental health needs.
A successful candidate will be the primary psychiatrist providing direct care of Severe and Persistent clients (including clinic and home visits) for the purpose of initial assessments, treatment care planning, pharmacological & non-pharmacological management, and follow-up). They will be expected to participate with weekly team meetings, be available for urgent home visits (including for the purpose of certification or Community Treatment Order apprehension orders) and provide support to team clinicians as required. There will be opportunities to work in collaboration with other psychiatrists and inter-disciplinary team members.
In addition to working for the Severe and Persistent team, the candidate will be involved in providing service (clinic visits and home visits) to community patients, including those residing in assisted living facilities. Opportunities to do out-patient urgent assessment consultations are also available.
The position will involve participation in the Urgent Psychiatry Clinic call roster which will be established. It is also the expectation of this position that the successful applicant will participate in quality improvement initiatives within the program. Remuneration is based on a fee-for service basis as well as sessional payments to cover travel time to client homes and non-billable activities.
Successful candidates will be expected to be actively involved in resident training, including seeking a Clinical Academic Colleague Appointment within the Department of Psychiatry, which will be considered a separate process via the University of Alberta.
The successful candidates must have or be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta. Preferred candidates will have completed advanced training in General Adult Psychiatry or have a General Adult Psychiatry background, and must have specialist qualifications, such as FRCPC or equivalent.
Candidates with an interest in working as part of an interdisciplinary team, enthusiasm with teaching and experience in leadership roles are preferred.

Qualifications & Experience

A Flat Fee is paid to physicians who practice & reside this community of $0 per year provided his/her annual income for insured services is greater than $50,000. (Residency conditions apply, including living in the eligible community for nine of the previous twelve months ending on the payment date.) The Variable Fee Premium paid is an additional 0% for insured services provided in this community.
Rural, Remote, Northern Program (RRNP) - Please note, payments through the RRNP are capped at $60,000 per physician per year.
Retention Benefit - supports and promotes the retention of physicians in Alberta by rewarding their continuous years of service to Albertans. Physicians receive between $5,141 and $12,852 depending on their years of service to Albertans.
Medical Liability Reimbursement - reimburses physicians for their medical liability protection costs less a $1,000 deductible.
Continuing Medical Education - reimburses physicians for eligible continuing medical education costs. Each eligible physician receives a $2,656 annual allotment which can be carried forward for up to three years.
Parental Leave Program - provides $1,063 per week for up to 17 weeks to physician parents of a newborn or newly adopted child.
Business Cost Program - addresses escalating practice costs in community based practices. This fee modifier is added automatically to select office visits and consultations. This program applies across the province and all physicians who provide visit services in an office based setting will receive an additional $2.75 with the exception of Calgary and Airdrie where the fee modifier is $3.25 on select office visits and consultations.
