General Pediatrician - Grey Nuns Community Hospital
Covenant Health, in partnership with Alberta Health Services and the University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, Department of Pediatrics, invites applications for a General Pediatrician to be based primarily at the Grey Nuns Community Hospital in Edmonton, Alberta.
Located in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, the Faculty has been internationally recognized as among the world’s top 50 medical schools and as one of Canada’s premier health-education institutions. Alberta Health Services is Canada’s largest and only provincial health region providing services for a population of over 4.2 million people.
Covenant is Canada’s largest Catholic provider of health care, with 26 Catholic facilities in 15 communities across Alberta. As a major provider in Alberta’s integrated health system, the Covenant family (Covenant Health, Covenant Care, and Covenant Living) works with Alberta Health Services and community partners to positively influence the health of Albertans through a broad range of programs and services in our hospitals, health centres and continuing care centres.
Qualifications:
The successful candidate would join a group of 8 private practice pediatricians with admitting privileges to Grey Nuns Community Hospital. The applicant would engage in a full range of community pediatrics with duties including:
- Being on the call roster for the GNCH with newborn admitting privileges and consultation to NICU for neonates transitioning to home care. The on call physician is expected to round on all non-assigned newborns the morning following being on call (averaging 12-20 newborns) and each day until discharge. On call duties would also include being available for consultations to GNCH ER and pediatric service calls while on call. The GNCH call group includes 8 general pediatricians. On call would be three to four days per month.
- Other teaching activities would include in-office teaching of students and residents and teaching of trainees on the pediatric service at the GNCH. Office teaching would be compensated by the EPSC as per established rates.
- Private office clinical services as organized with your private practice clinic colleagues.
- Remuneration will be based on the Fee-for-Service (FFS) schedule.
The successful candidate must be eligible for registration with the College of Physicians & Surgeons of Alberta and must be appointed to the Edmonton Zone Medical Staff. The successful candidate will be eligible to be certified by the RCPS of Canada in the specialty of pediatrics. An interest in community pediatrics or subspecialty training in areas aligned with community pediatrics activities is preferred.
The successful applicant will be expected to apply for a Clinical Academic Colleague Appointment in the Department of Pediatrics, University of Alberta, which will be considered under a separate process through the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry.
Compensation:
Remuneration will be based on the Fee-for-Service (FFS) schedule.

Physician Agreement Incentives

A Flat Fee is paid to physicians who practice & reside this community of $0 per year provided his/her annual income for insured services is greater than $50,000. (Residency conditions apply, including living in the eligible community for nine of the previous twelve months ending on the payment date.) The Variable Fee Premium paid is an additional 0% for insured services provided in this community.

Rural, Remote, Northern Program (RRNP) - Please note, payments through the RRNP are capped at $60,000 per physician per year.

Medical Liability Reimbursement - reimburses physicians for their medical liability protection costs less a $1,000 deductible.

Continuing Medical Education - reimburses physicians for eligible continuing medical education costs. Each eligible physician receives a $2,656 annual allotment which can be carried forward for up to three years.

Parental Leave Program - provides $1,063 per week for up to 17 weeks to physician parents of a newborn or newly adopted child.

Business Cost Program - addresses escalating practice costs in community based practices. This fee modifier is added automatically to select office visits and consultations. This program applies across the province and all physicians who provide visit services in an office based setting will receive an additional $2.75 with the exception of Calgary and Airdrie where the fee modifier is $3.25 on select office visits and consultations.
