Alberta Health Services, Department of Child Health in partnership with the University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, Department of Pediatrics, is inviting applications for the position of Pediatric Intensivist to join the Stollery Children’s Hospital in the Edmonton Zone.
The Stollery Children''s Hospital provides quaternary support to a vast geographic region as well as the critical care services for the children of Northern Alberta as well as the largest encashment area in Western Canada. The Stollery Pediatric Critical Care Units (PICU and PCICU), provide care to over 1000 patients per year, and are responsible for providing a full array of cardiovascular, medical, and surgical, populations. The Stollery Children’s Hospital PICU is home to a very active and successful ECLS, transport and pediatric solid organ transplant programs. Our program prides itself on excellent clinical outcomes and is in the process of developing a new state of the art PICU and PCICU with 16 beds each.
The Pediatric Critical Care Division supports a successful Royal College certified Pediatric Critical Care Medicine fellowship program. All members of the Division are expected to contribute and actively participate in non-clinical activities including research, teaching, administration and quality improvement.
The successful applicant shall have certification in Pediatrics or Anesthesia together with Critical Care with the Royal College of Physicians of Canada or equivalent and be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta. Extensive Pediatric Intensive Care experience is required, and the ideal candidate for this position would have 2 to 5 years of established independent practice in that environment. This position will carry an expectation of clinical research within the PICU setting and therefore post graduate training (MSc and/or PhD) in research methodology is preferred.
Remuneration for this position will be funded by a competitive and highly successful clinical alternate funding plan. ($300,000 - $400,000)

A Flat Fee is paid to physicians who practice & reside this community of $0 per year provided his/her annual income for insured services is greater than $50,000. (Residency conditions apply, including living in the eligible community for nine of the previous twelve months ending on the payment date.) The Variable Fee Premium paid is an additional 0% for insured services provided in this community.
Rural, Remote, Northern Program (RRNP) - Please note, payments through the RRNP are capped at $60,000 per physician per year.
Retention Benefit - supports and promotes the retention of physicians in Alberta by rewarding their continuous years of service to Albertans. Physicians receive between $5,141 and $12,852 depending on their years of service to Albertans.
Medical Liability Reimbursement - reimburses physicians for their medical liability protection costs less a $1,000 deductible.
Continuing Medical Education - reimburses physicians for eligible continuing medical education costs. Each eligible physician receives a $2,656 annual allotment which can be carried forward for up to three years.
Parental Leave Program - provides $1,063 per week for up to 17 weeks to physician parents of a newborn or newly adopted child.
Business Cost Program - addresses escalating practice costs in community based practices. This fee modifier is added automatically to select office visits and consultations. This program applies across the province and all physicians who provide visit services in an office based setting will receive an additional $2.75 with the exception of Calgary and Airdrie where the fee modifier is $3.25 on select office visits and consultations.
