The University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, Department of Medicine, Division of Neurology in partnership with Alberta Health Services and Covenant Health, invites applications for an Academic Stroke physician to be based at the University of Alberta Hospital Located in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. The Faculty has been internationally recognized as among the world’s top 50 medical schools and as one of Canada’s premier health-education institutions.
Key accountabilities of the Clinical Faculty Neurology Physician will include, but will not be limited to: clinical practice of acute Stroke care, Telestroke care, inpatient Stroke care and ambulatory care in the UAH Adult Stroke clinic, classroom and bedside teaching of undergraduate and postgraduate medical trainees, including Neurology subspecialty residents and Stroke fellows. Clinical practice is expected of the successful candidate and may include, but not be limited to, inpatient consultation and participation in Zone wide after hours call; ambulatory care. Other areas of clinical interest may be incorporated into the role.
The successful applicant will be expected to apply for a Clinical Academic Colleague Appointment in the Department of Medicine, University of Alberta, which will be considered under a separate process through the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry.
The successful candidate will have Stroke fellowship training with or without additional Faculty experience beyond Neurology training. Evidence of scholarly activity (research, publications, successful grant applications or clinical program development) will be required.
The successful candidate will have an MD degree with training in Neurology and be eligible for licensure and Neurology practice with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA).

The University is currently home to 39,000 students and 15,000 faculty and staff. The Division of Neurology currently has 30 Faculty members. It provides clinical services to all acute care facilities in Edmonton, and consultative services to Northern Alberta and western NWT. The Stroke Program has 8 neurologists who deliver acute Stroke care, Telestroke services, Stroke ward management along with academic basic science and clinical research.

Remuneration will be based on the Fee-for-Service (FFS) schedule.

Qualifications & Experience
- Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (desired)
A Flat Fee is paid to physicians who practice & reside this community of $0 per year provided his/her annual income for insured services is greater than $50,000. (Residency conditions apply, including living in the eligible community for nine of the previous twelve months ending on the payment date.) The Variable Fee Premium paid is an additional 0% for insured services provided in this community.
Rural, Remote, Northern Program (RRNP) - Please note, payments through the RRNP are capped at $60,000 per physician per year.
Retention Benefit - supports and promotes the retention of physicians in Alberta by rewarding their continuous years of service to Albertans. Physicians receive between $5,141 and $12,852 depending on their years of service to Albertans.
Medical Liability Reimbursement - reimburses physicians for their medical liability protection costs less a $1,000 deductible.
Continuing Medical Education - reimburses physicians for eligible continuing medical education costs. Each eligible physician receives a $2,656 annual allotment which can be carried forward for up to three years.
Parental Leave Program - provides $1,063 per week for up to 17 weeks to physician parents of a newborn or newly adopted child.
Business Cost Program - addresses escalating practice costs in community based practices. This fee modifier is added automatically to select office visits and consultations. This program applies across the province and all physicians who provide visit services in an office based setting will receive an additional $2.75 with the exception of Calgary and Airdrie where the fee modifier is $3.25 on select office visits and consultations.
