The University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, Department of Medicine, Division of Neurology in partnership with Alberta Health Services, invites applications for a Hospitalist/Internist to be based at the University of Alberta Hospital. Located in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, the Faculty has been internationally recognized as among the world’s top 50 medical schools and as one of Canada’s premier health-education institutions.
The University of Alberta Hospital is a quaternary care facility in Edmonton Alberta associated with the University of Alberta. The Neurology service at UAH admits patients with complex neurological and medical problems including stroke, Guillain-Barre syndrome, MS, epilepsy and neurodegenerative disorders. Hospitalist/Internist inpatient participation and supervision of the complex medical management of patients with neurological disorders after completion of their acute neurological care is carried out at UAH. Hospitalist/internist physicians to participate in and supervise the delivery of this care are required.
The successful candidate will have an MD degree, or equivalent. He or she will be eligible to be certified in Internal Medicine with the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada. As well, he or she will be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA).
Remuneration will be based on the Fee-for-Service (FFS) schedule.
Key accountabilities of the Hospitalist/Internist will include, but will not be limited to inpatient care of patients for 26-24 weeks yearly, participation in after-hours call coverage, provision of internal medicine consultation on the Neurology ward and reporting to the Division of Neurology, and Division of General Internal Medicine.
The successful applicant will be eligible to apply for a Clinical Academic Colleague Appointment in the Department of Medicine, University of Alberta, which will be considered under a separate process through the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry.

Qualifications & Experience

A Flat Fee is paid to physicians who practice & reside this community of $0 per year provided his/her annual income for insured services is greater than $50,000. (Residency conditions apply, including living in the eligible community for nine of the previous twelve months ending on the payment date.) The Variable Fee Premium paid is an additional 0% for insured services provided in this community.
Rural, Remote, Northern Program (RRNP) - Please note, payments through the RRNP are capped at $60,000 per physician per year.
Retention Benefit - supports and promotes the retention of physicians in Alberta by rewarding their continuous years of service to Albertans. Physicians receive between $5,141 and $12,852 depending on their years of service to Albertans.
Medical Liability Reimbursement - reimburses physicians for their medical liability protection costs less a $1,000 deductible.
Continuing Medical Education - reimburses physicians for eligible continuing medical education costs. Each eligible physician receives a $2,656 annual allotment which can be carried forward for up to three years.
Parental Leave Program - provides $1,063 per week for up to 17 weeks to physician parents of a newborn or newly adopted child.
Business Cost Program - addresses escalating practice costs in community based practices. This fee modifier is added automatically to select office visits and consultations. This program applies across the province and all physicians who provide visit services in an office based setting will receive an additional $2.75 with the exception of Calgary and Airdrie where the fee modifier is $3.25 on select office visits and consultations.
