The University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry in partnership with Alberta Health Services (AHS) is inviting applications for an academic medical geneticist at the Assistant or Associate Professor level.
Our vibrant and growing clinic, located at the University of Alberta/Stollery Children’s Hospital, provides a wide range of genetic services. These services include general genetics, dysmorphology, prenatal diagnosis, hereditary cancer, adult genetics, as well as the diagnosis and treatment of inborn errors of metabolism to the population of Northern Alberta, the Northwest Territories and Nunavut.
The successful candidate will provide clinical care as a part of a team of seven full-time academic Clinical and Metabolic Geneticists. The successful candidate will work together with a large compliment of certified genetic counselors and support staff to provide out-patient care and inpatient consultations.
The successful candidate will be expected to play an active role in research and education, as well as collaborate with scholarly activities of an accomplished group of clinical teachers and researches with interests in human molecular genetics and molecular biology related to inherited disease (or relevant animal models) the study of chromosomal structure, complex traits, cancer, membrane transport, ocular disease and developmental pathways.
Commensurate with experience, an appropriate university academic appointment will be offered in the Department of Medical Genetics., Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, which has been internationally recognized as among the world’s to 50 medical schools and as one of Canada’s premier health-education institutions and is located in Edmonton.
Applicants must have an MD or MD/PhD and be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta, CCMG or FRCPC certification (or equivalent) in Medical Genetics would be a distinct asset, but specialists in other fields with significant specialty training and/or experience in clinical medical genetics may be considered.
This position is 1.0 FTE. Remuneration for this position is based on an income scale of $309,904.75 - $363,904.75 commensurate with qualifications and experience.

A Flat Fee is paid to physicians who practice & reside this community of $0 per year provided his/her annual income for insured services is greater than $50,000. (Residency conditions apply, including living in the eligible community for nine of the previous twelve months ending on the payment date.) The Variable Fee Premium paid is an additional 0% for insured services provided in this community.
Rural, Remote, Northern Program (RRNP) - Please note, payments through the RRNP are capped at $60,000 per physician per year.
Medical Liability Reimbursement - reimburses physicians for their medical liability protection costs less a $1,000 deductible.
Continuing Medical Education - reimburses physicians for eligible continuing medical education costs. Each eligible physician receives a $2,656 annual allotment which can be carried forward for up to three years.
Parental Leave Program - provides $1,063 per week for up to 17 weeks to physician parents of a newborn or newly adopted child.
Business Cost Program - addresses escalating practice costs in community based practices. This fee modifier is added automatically to select office visits and consultations. This program applies across the province and all physicians who provide visit services in an office based setting will receive an additional $2.75 with the exception of Calgary and Airdrie where the fee modifier is $3.25 on select office visits and consultations.
