Covenant Health, Alberta Health Services and the University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, Department of Surgery, Division of General Surgery, invites applications for a General Surgeon with fellowship training in Breast Surgery. The successful applicant will be based primarily at the Misericordia Community Hospital.

The Edmonton Zone General Surgery program presently consists of 53 General Surgeons and provides service to the City of Edmonton and surrounding communities. The Zonal program provides quaternary, tertiary, subspecialty and general surgical care throughout the Edmonton Zone (such as hepatobiliary surgery and transplantation, general surgical oncology, head and neck surgery, endocrine surgery, trauma, colorectal surgery, vascular surgery, upper GI surgery, bariatric surgery, breast surgery, and minimally invasive surgery).
The successful applicant will have a job description which includes a commitment to clinical care delivery, education and research. Remuneration will be on a fee-for-services basis through billings submitted by the physician to Alberta Health & Wellness. The successful candidate will care for surgical inpatients and outpatients, and participate in full scope of general surgical on-call rotation supporting the Misericordia Community Hospital. The MCH surgical program, along with the other site-based surgical programs, supports the entire Edmonton Zone through a regional referral program covering Northern Alberta. There will be specific duties required as they relate to the Breast Oncology Program in the Edmonton Zone.
Applicants must hold an MD or equivalent with completed training in General Surgery and must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta. This individual must have obtained the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada Fellowship in General Surgery or equivalent and have undergone recognized Fellowship training in Breast Cancer Surgery. Special consideration will be given for those candidates with additional training in oncoplastic surgery and /or clinical cancer genetics.
This individual will take part in the undergraduate and post-graduate surgery curricula at the University of Alberta. Therefore, the successful candidate will be expected to apply for a Clinical Academic appointment in the Department of Surgery, University of Alberta. This will be considered under a separate process through the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry.

A Flat Fee is paid to physicians who practice & reside this community of $0 per year provided his/her annual income for insured services is greater than $50,000. (Residency conditions apply, including living in the eligible community for nine of the previous twelve months ending on the payment date.) The Variable Fee Premium paid is an additional 0% for insured services provided in this community.
Rural, Remote, Northern Program (RRNP) - Please note, payments through the RRNP are capped at $60,000 per physician per year.
Medical Liability Reimbursement - reimburses physicians for their medical liability protection costs less a $1,000 deductible.
Continuing Medical Education - reimburses physicians for eligible continuing medical education costs. Each eligible physician receives a $2,656 annual allotment which can be carried forward for up to three years.
Parental Leave Program - provides $1,063 per week for up to 17 weeks to physician parents of a newborn or newly adopted child.
Business Cost Program - addresses escalating practice costs in community based practices. This fee modifier is added automatically to select office visits and consultations. This program applies across the province and all physicians who provide visit services in an office based setting will receive an additional $2.75 with the exception of Calgary and Airdrie where the fee modifier is $3.25 on select office visits and consultations.
