Fee For Service Position for a Family Medicine Physician – Northern Alberta Program in the Division of Infectious Diseases

The University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, Department of Medicine, Division of Infectious Diseases in partnership with Alberta Health Services invites applications for a Family Medicine Physician in the Northern Alberta HIV Program, based at the Royal Alexandra Hospital. Located in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, the Faculty has been internationally recognized as among the world’s top 50 medical schools and as one of Canada’s premier health-education institutions.

The Division of Infectious Diseases currently has 26 Faculty members. It provides clinical services to all acute care facilities in Edmonton, and consultative services to Northern Alberta and western NWT. There are established specialty programs in HIV/AIDS, Viral Hepatitis, Outpatient Parenteral Antimicrobial Therapy (OPAT), Transplant Infectious Diseases, Infection Control and Antimicrobial Stewardship as well as close relationships with Provincial and regional microbiology laboratories, and regional Public Health officials. The Northern Alberta HIV Program (NAP) provides multidisciplinary care to over 2400 individuals living with HIV throughout Northern Alberta with care delivered out of 2 primary sites, the Kaye Edmonton Clinic (KEC) at University of Alberta Hospital and the Royal Alexandra Hospital. The model of care is multidisciplinary with program staff including nurses, social workers, pharmacists, dieticians and clerical staff. The NAP program is growing with over 100 new patients per year and a significant proportion of patients do not have a primary care physician.

This position is eligible for AHS Sponsorship of CPSA Practice Readiness Assessment.

The successful candidate will have an MD degree, or equivalent. He or she will be eligible for certification in Family Medicine with the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada. As well, he or she will be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA). Experience in the care of patients with addictions, LGBTQ patients and cross cultural care, including migrant populations, would be highly desirable. Some familiarity with HIV care would be an advantage although not essential as antiretroviral treatment will be directed by NAP staff. The successful candidate must be able to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Remuneration will be based on the Fee-for-Service (FFS) schedule.

Key accountabilities of the Family Medicine Physician in the Northern Alberta Program will include, but will not be limited to provision of outpatient general medical care to patients in the Program who lack a family physician.

Interested candidates are asked to submit online a letter of intent and curriculum vitae outlining their education, qualifications and experience along with three letters of reference.
