Job Description

Responsibilities/Duties
The Department of Oncology at the University of Alberta, in partnership with Alberta Health Services – Cancer Control Alberta (AHS), Cross Cancer Institute (CCI), invite applications for the position of Clinician-Scientist or Clinician-Investigator with expertise in PET imaging and MRI to take a leadership role in the operation of a new PET-MR scanner recently installed at the Cross Cancer Institute.

The CCI is a free-standing, integrated, cancer treatment and research facility that functions as the tertiary oncology referral centre for Northern Alberta. Alberta Health Services is Canada’s largest and only provincial health region, providing services for a population of over 4 million people.

Qualifications
The successful candidate will be an MD (or equivalent) with certification in Diagnostic Radiology and/or Nuclear Medicine, be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta and have expertise in PET and MRI. The successful applicant will have a demonstrated track record of academic performance with peer-reviewed publications in any aspect of PET or MRI. The successful candidate will have an academic appointment in the Department of Oncology, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, University of Alberta, at a rank that will be based on years of experience. The successful candidate will be expected to conduct innovative independent research and to act as a collaborator/advisor to the many clinical groups who are interested in using the PET/MRI scanner as a research tool. The starting income will be commensurate with the level of training and experience, but will be above the median specialist income for Alberta.

Compensation
Total remuneration will be comprised of University of Alberta Salary and Alberta Health Services supplement. Total remuneration will depend on academic and clinical experience and comply with the agreement between Cancer Control Alberta, Alberta Health Services and the Alberta Medical Association and the Compensation Grid for Diagnostic Imaging Physicians (Group 1) range is between $534,226 (level 1 ) and $693,735 (level3).

Physician Agreement Incentives

A Flat Fee is paid to physicians who practice & reside this community of $0 per year provided his/her annual income for insured services is greater than $50,000. (Residency conditions apply, including living in the eligible community for nine of the previous twelve months ending on the payment date.) The Variable Fee Premium paid is an additional 0% for insured services provided in this community.

Rural, Remote, Northern Program (RRNP) - Please note, payments through the RRNP are capped at $60,000 per physician per year.

Medical Liability Reimbursement - reimburses physicians for their medical liability protection costs less a $1,000 deductible.

Continuing Medical Education - reimburses physicians for eligible continuing medical education costs. Each eligible physician receives a $2,656 annual allotment which can be carried forward for up to three years.

Parental Leave Program - provides $1,063 per week for up to 17 weeks to physician parents of a newborn or newly adopted child.

Business Cost Program - addresses escalating practice costs in community based practices. This fee modifier is added automatically to select office visits and consultations. This program applies across the province and all physicians who provide visit services in an office based setting will receive an additional $2.75 with the exception of Calgary and Airdrie where the fee modifier is $3.25 on select office visits and consultations.
