The University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, Department of Medicine, Division of Pulmonary Medicine in partnership with Alberta Health Services, invites applications for a Clinical Immunologist/Allergist to be based at the University of Alberta Hospital/KEC. Located in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, the Faculty has been internationally recognized as among the world’s top 50 medical schools and as one of Canada’s premier health-education institutions. The University is currently home to more than 38,000 students with more than 15,000 faculty and staff.
The Division of Pulmonary Medicine consists of a team of three PhD, Fourteen MD full-time academic faculty and five MD clinical faculty, offering a wide range of clinical programs in Pulmonary Medicine and Allergy. Division members have dedicated asthma, COPD, Bronchiectasis, interstitial lung disease and pleural effusion clinics in addition to subspecialty services that include Tuberculosis, Adult Cystic Fibrosis, Sleep Disorders, Pulmonary Hypertension and Interventional Pulmonary Medicine. Division members also care for one of the largest Lung Transplantation populations in Canada and offer the full range of clinical supports for advanced respiratory care (i.e. in-patient non-invasive mechanical ventilation and endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS). The Division has two full-time and one part-time allergists and offers a wide array of Adult Allergy Services. The Division is affiliated with the Pulmonary Research Group and has PhD and MD members involved in various areas of research in lung and airway diseases.
The successful candidate will have an MD degree, or equivalent with certification in Clinical Immunology and Allergy with the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada. As well, he or she will be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA) and have an interest in drug adverse reaction.
Remuneration will be based on the Fee-for-Service (FFS) schedule.
Key accountabilities of the Clinical Immunologist/Allergist will include, but will not be limited to outpatient allergy clinics, development of a drug reaction clinic within KEC, attendance at the Primary Immunodeficiency Clinic and inpatient consults as needed. Although an official consult service does not exist and there will be no call schedule for the time being, the chosen candidate would be responsible for consults in the hospital five days a week during working hours. The chosen individuals will also be expected to contribute significant time to training of Core Internal Medicine Residents and Residents from other specialties and subspecialties in Clinical Immunology and Allergy subjects. A training program in Clinical Immunology and Allergy is desired, and the chosen individual will be expected to also participate in the training program once it is established.
The successful applicant will be expected to apply for a Clinical Academic Colleague Appointment in the Department of Medicine, University of Alberta, which will be considered under a separate process through the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry.

A Flat Fee is paid to physicians who practice & reside this community of $0 per year provided his/her annual income for insured services is greater than $50,000. (Residency conditions apply, including living in the eligible community for nine of the previous twelve months ending on the payment date.) The Variable Fee Premium paid is an additional 0% for insured services provided in this community.
Rural, Remote, Northern Program (RRNP) - Please note, payments through the RRNP are capped at $60,000 per physician per year.
Retention Benefit - supports and promotes the retention of physicians in Alberta by rewarding their continuous years of service to Albertans. Physicians receive between $5,141 and $12,852 depending on their years of service to Albertans.
Medical Liability Reimbursement - reimburses physicians for their medical liability protection costs less a $1,000 deductible.
Continuing Medical Education - reimburses physicians for eligible continuing medical education costs. Each eligible physician receives a $2,656 annual allotment which can be carried forward for up to three years.
Parental Leave Program - provides $1,063 per week for up to 17 weeks to physician parents of a newborn or newly adopted child.
Business Cost Program - addresses escalating practice costs in community based practices. This fee modifier is added automatically to select office visits and consultations. This program applies across the province and all physicians who provide visit services in an office based setting will receive an additional $2.75 with the exception of Calgary and Airdrie where the fee modifier is $3.25 on select office visits and consultations.
