The University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, Department of Medicine, Division of Cardiology in partnership with Alberta Health Services invites applications for a Heart Failure Specialist/Cardiac Device Implanter to be based at the Royal Alexandra Hospital Located in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, the Faculty has been internationally recognized as among the world’s top 50 medical schools and as one of Canada’s premier health-education institutions. The University is currently home to more than 38,000 students with more than 15,000 faculty and staff.
Division of Cardiology Royal Alexandra Site:
The Royal Alexandra Hospital Division of Cardiology is a Community based Tertiary Level facility supplying Cardiac Services to mid and northern Alberta as well as Northern BC and Northern Canada. This is a very busy program providing services including Cardiac Intensive Care in a 12 Bed unit, Cardiac Catheterization and Angioplasty in two labs providing elective and emergency evaluation and treatment including complex PCI, CTO PCI and involvement in a regional STEMI program. Device Implantation is carried out as part of the Arrhythmia services program and includes pacemakers, AICD and CRT. Full service ECHO/TEE and stress ECHO are performed. There is an active clinic setting for Complex Heart Failure patients, Arrhythmia and Device clinic and members are actively involved in clinical teaching of students/Residents and Fellows
The successful candidate will be an MD (or equivalent) with certification in Cardiology with the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada, be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA) and subspecialty training in advanced device implantation and Heart Failure Management.

Key accountabilities of the Combined Cardiac Specialty Position will include, but will not be limited to maintain competency in complex arrhythmia evaluation and Device implantation and involvement in the Heart Failure Clinic.
The successful applicant will be expected to apply for a Clinical Academic Colleague Appointment in the Department of Medicine, University of Alberta, which will be considered under a separate process through the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry.

Qualifications & Experience
- Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (desired)
A Flat Fee is paid to physicians who practice & reside this community of $0 per year provided his/her annual income for insured services is greater than $50,000. (Residency conditions apply, including living in the eligible community for nine of the previous twelve months ending on the payment date.) The Variable Fee Premium paid is an additional 0% for insured services provided in this community.
Rural, Remote, Northern Program (RRNP) - Please note, payments through the RRNP are capped at $60,000 per physician per year.
Retention Benefit - supports and promotes the retention of physicians in Alberta by rewarding their continuous years of service to Albertans. Physicians receive between $5,141 and $12,852 depending on their years of service to Albertans.
Medical Liability Reimbursement - reimburses physicians for their medical liability protection costs less a $1,000 deductible.
Continuing Medical Education - reimburses physicians for eligible continuing medical education costs. Each eligible physician receives a $2,656 annual allotment which can be carried forward for up to three years.
Parental Leave Program - provides $1,063 per week for up to 17 weeks to physician parents of a newborn or newly adopted child.
Business Cost Program - addresses escalating practice costs in community based practices. This fee modifier is added automatically to select office visits and consultations. This program applies across the province and all physicians who provide visit services in an office based setting will receive an additional $2.75 with the exception of Calgary and Airdrie where the fee modifier is $3.25 on select office visits and consultations.
