The University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, Department of Medicine, Division of Cardiology in partnership with Alberta Health Services and Covenant Health, invites applications for an Adult Echocardiographer to be based at the University of Alberta Hospital and Mazankowski Heart Institute. Located in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, the Faculty has been internationally recognized as among the world’s top 50 medical schools and as one of Canada’s premier health-education institutions.
The University of Alberta''s Division of Cardiology is an integral part of the Department of Medicine and the Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute, a state of the art facility that provides tertiary and quaternary cardiac care services for the City of Edmonton, Northern Alberta, and parts of British Columbia, Yukon, Nunavut, Northwest Territories and portions of Saskatchewan. The University of Alberta and Mazankowski Heart Institute are home to one of the premier Echocardiography programs in the country offering a complete spectrum of Echocardiography imaging including Stress, Contrast, 3-D and Transesophageal Echo to a wide spectrum of patients including subspecialized populations in patients with Adult Congenital Heart Disease, Pulmonary Hypertension, Cardiac Transplantation and VAD. In addition, a vibrant research and Fellowship program exit which is essential to the academic mission.
The successful recruit will join a group of 34 cardiologists including seven other Echocardiographers. In keeping with our vision statement of exemplary patient care, discovery and education; the successful candidate will have the opportunity to grow and develop in a premier institution with an internationally recognized Echocardiography program. The candidate must be proficient in Stress, Contrast, 3-D and Transesophageal Echo. Additional training in myocardial perfusion echocardiography, and management of patients with complex valve disease and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy would be an asset. Particular attention will be given to candidates with leadership experience or training in order to transition in to a directorial role in the echocardiography laboratory.
The successful candidate will have an MD degree, or equivalent. He or she will be eligible for certification in Cardiology with the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada. As well, he or she will be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA) and have Specialty training in Echocardiography with proficiency in Stress, Contrast, 3-D and Transesophageal Echo. It is expected that the successful candidate lead a Quality Assurance Program to ensure highest quality and standards in addition to collaborating in clinical research.
Key clinical accountabilities of is recruitment will include, but will not be limited to: Equitable Echocardiography service, Outpatient General Cardiology Clinic, Inpatient service, Emergency Triage, and equitable share of Division of Cardiology undergraduate and postgraduate teaching responsibilities.
The successful applicant will be expected to apply for a Clinical Academic Colleague Appointment in the Department of Medicine, University of Alberta, which will be considered under a separate process through the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry.
Remuneration for this position is based on the Academic Medicine & Health Services Program (AMHSP). Salary will be commensurate with education and experience. ($366,130 - $497,130)

A Flat Fee is paid to physicians who practice & reside this community of $0 per year provided his/her annual income for insured services is greater than $50,000. (Residency conditions apply, including living in the eligible community for nine of the previous twelve months ending on the payment date.) The Variable Fee Premium paid is an additional 0% for insured services provided in this community.
Rural, Remote, Northern Program (RRNP) - Please note, payments through the RRNP are capped at $60,000 per physician per year.
Retention Benefit - supports and promotes the retention of physicians in Alberta by rewarding their continuous years of service to Albertans. Physicians receive between $5,141 and $12,852 depending on their years of service to Albertans.
Medical Liability Reimbursement - reimburses physicians for their medical liability protection costs less a $1,000 deductible.
Continuing Medical Education - reimburses physicians for eligible continuing medical education costs. Each eligible physician receives a $2,656 annual allotment which can be carried forward for up to three years.
Parental Leave Program - provides $1,063 per week for up to 17 weeks to physician parents of a newborn or newly adopted child.
Business Cost Program - addresses escalating practice costs in community based practices. This fee modifier is added automatically to select office visits and consultations. This program applies across the province and all physicians who provide visit services in an office based setting will receive an additional $2.75 with the exception of Calgary and Airdrie where the fee modifier is $3.25 on select office visits and consultations.
