Join our exciting, dynamic, patient focused Laboratory Services Team. The Misericordia Community Hospital, Laboratory Medicine and Pathology, Covenant Health in partnership with the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology, University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, in Edmonton, Alberta is seeking a qualified Anatomical / General Pathologist with sub-specialty expertise in Dermatopathology for a 0.5 FTE position. The successful applicant may be considered for an appointment with the University of Alberta’s Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology.
This 0.5 FTE position may have involvement and interaction with different hospital sites in the Edmonton Zone. The Edmonton Zone Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, with its team of 96 pathologists and many zonal consultants, functions as a zonal Center of Excellence. The successful applicant may be involved in the diagnostic activity across sites in the Edmonton Zone, and is expected to become an active zonal consultant in their area(s) of sub-specialty expertise, help in coordination or participation of the Edmonton Zone special interest group (SIG) activities, and interact with the clinical stakeholders in their area(s). In addition to a sub-specialty practice in Dermatopathology, participation in general surgical pathology practice maybe required.
The Department is integrated with the academic health campus and there are opportunities for independent and/or collaborative research that foster the goals of discovery knowledge and translational research at the University of Alberta. Depending on the qualifications of the applicant, there are opportunities to practice in a sub-specialty environment while participating in clinical and/or basic research activities. Teaching and interaction with a wide range of learners from undergraduate through postgraduate studies (residents from anatomical and general pathology), with provision of interactive educational opportunities at all levels is encouraged.
Applicants shall possess a strong track record of collegiality with co-workers, professional (academic and/or clinical-diagnostic) accomplishments, and evidence of ongoing continued medical education. Responsibilities may include supervising technical staff, overseeing the laboratory quality assurance program, on call requirements, clinical consultation with physicians, surgeons and oncologists, and liaising with various multidisciplinary committees and groups that develop and monitor laboratory policies, processes and procedures.
The successful candidate shall have or be eligible for certification in General Pathology or Anatomical Pathology with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta. Physicians must also have current Canadian Medical Protective Association coverage. In accordance with the Canadian Foreign Workers requirements, all qualified candidates are encouraged to apply; however, Canadians and permanent residents will be given priority.
Covenant Health and Alberta Health Services offers a competitive remuneration package, including relocation assistance. Salary is according to the Alberta Medical Association grid for physicians in Laboratory Medicine and Pathology. Starting salary is commensurate with level of fellowship and experience (range $350,197 - $407,373).

Qualifications & Experience
- Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (desired)
A Flat Fee is paid to physicians who practice & reside this community of $0 per year provided his/her annual income for insured services is greater than $50,000. (Residency conditions apply, including living in the eligible community for nine of the previous twelve months ending on the payment date.) The Variable Fee Premium paid is an additional 0% for insured services provided in this community.
Rural, Remote, Northern Program (RRNP) - Please note, payments through the RRNP are capped at $60,000 per physician per year.
Medical Liability Reimbursement - reimburses physicians for their medical liability protection costs less a $1,000 deductible.
Continuing Medical Education - reimburses physicians for eligible continuing medical education costs. Each eligible physician receives a $2,656 annual allotment which can be carried forward for up to three years.
Parental Leave Program - provides $1,063 per week for up to 17 weeks to physician parents of a newborn or newly adopted child.
Business Cost Program - addresses escalating practice costs in community based practices. This fee modifier is added automatically to select office visits and consultations. This program applies across the province and all physicians who provide visit services in an office based setting will receive an additional $2.75 with the exception of Calgary and Airdrie where the fee modifier is $3.25 on select office visits and consultations.
