Practice Description

Welcome to Wetaskiwin Family Medical Practice which is located 30 minutes south of Edmonton in a modern office.

We utilize the Healthquest EMR and have long term, knowledgeable and efficient staff to assist you.

The physician who will take this locum position will provide Family Practice Care to an established panel. The Clinic is open from 0830 until 1700 hours Monday thru Friday with the exception of Stat holidays.

We have a walk in clinic, family practice, do lodge visits for our patients on a regular basis and do an outreach screening program of ASAP utilizing the TOP Guidelines. The doctors belong to the Wetaskiwin Primary Care Network and as such we have a effective RN who does Chronic Disease Management for our patients 3 days per week and a LPN who runs the injection clinic one day per week.

The doctors belong to the Wetaskiwin Primary Care Network and as such we have a RN doing chronic disease management for our patients 3 days per week and a LPN running our injection clinic one day per week. HOSPITAL
Our emergency department has more than 30 000 visits per year and we have a system in place where 2 family doctors at a time provide coverage on an on-call basis. This allows us to be very effective in managing a higher volume of patients as well as having the security of back-up in crisis situations. We have a full time on-site Radiologist and our diagnostic imaging department offers ultrasound and CT. We also have the benefit of a full time General Surgeon, Gynaecologist / Obstetrician, one Respiratory and one General Internal Medicine specialist as well as a visiting Cardiologist, Nephrologist, Urologist and Ophthalmologist. The hospital has 4 general practitioner anaesthesiologists that are also on call for procedural sedation in the emergency department.



The emergency department has 4 monitored beds, 2 major trauma rooms, 5 OPD rooms and 3 clinic rooms as well as a 5 bed holding unit. A full range of lab services are available and we have recently acquired the equipment and training for ED Echo [ FAST US ]. The hospital offers a 3 bed special care unit, 2 medical and surgical wards as well as a dedicated paediatrics and obstetrical ward. There are two functional operating rooms.

Physician Agreement Incentives

A Flat Fee is paid to physicians who practice & reside in this community of $4100.00 per year provided his/her annual income for insured services is greater than $50,000. (Residency conditions apply, including living in the eligible community for nine of the previous twelve months ending on the payment date.) The Variable Fee Premium paid is an additional 0.00% for insured services provided in this community.

Rural, Remote, Northern Program (RRNP) - Please note, payments through the RRNP are capped at $60,000 per physician per year.

Retention Benefit - supports and promotes the retention of physicians in Alberta by rewarding their continuous years of service to Albertans. Physicians receive between $5,141 and $12,852 depending on their years of service to Albertans.

Medical Liability Reimbursement - reimburses physicians for their medical liability protection costs less a $1,000 deductible.

Continuing Medical Education - reimburses physicians for eligible continuing medical education costs. Each eligible physician receives a $2,656 annual allotment which can be carried forward for up to three years.

Parental Leave Program - provides $1,063 per week for up to 17 weeks to physician parents of a newborn or newly adopted child.

Business Cost Program - addresses escalating practice costs in community based practices. This fee modifier is added automatically to select office visits and consultations. This program applies across the province and all physicians who provide visit services in an office based setting will receive an additional $2.75 with the exception of Calgary and Airdrie where the fee modifier is $3.25 on select office visits and consultations.
