Provide a full range of family medicine practice within an associated physician clinic of family physicians, specialists, primary care network ancillary healthcare providers, and visiting providers. Participate in the establishment of chronic disease and chronic pain management treatment plans and care in a leadership role. This includes especially geriatric chronic disease (diabetes, COPD, obesity, hypertension, psychiatry). Establish policies and procedures regarding the integration of clinic staff and community care providers to institute comprehensive continuous care models for patients then Integrate these models into the electronic medical record to provide templates/systems to be used by the remaining physicians. This will require participation in committees and groups with a range of healthcare providers and ancillary staff. It may include teaching family medicine students and residents and training other staff.

Provide 24/7 care for your family medicine patients within institutions within the community Monday-Friday and up to every 4th weekend. This may involve home visits.

This is an office-based position to allow remaining physicians to provide comprehensive care within the hospital and walk-in clinic. It will involve practice in a team environment and excellent ability to communicate with the existing physicians to provide continuity of care or coordinate emergency care with their family physician.

Qualifications & Experience

MD, at least 5 years experience in family medicine with extensive experience in geriatric medicine, adult and pediatric psychiatry, palliative care, and chronic disease, preferably in a leadership role. Experience in sports medicine and dermatology would be an asset. A physician with the comfort level to cover for complicated Internal Medicine patients in the absence of the solo internist would be given priority. Must be willing to consider 24/7 surgical assisting and coverage for newborns in the future. Must have or be willing to quickly obtain (at their own expense) up-to-date ACLS, PALS, NRP, ATLS and BLS.

Physician Agreement Incentives

A Flat Fee is paid to physicians who practice & reside in this community of $12176.60 per year provided his/her annual income for insured services is greater than $50,000. (Residency conditions apply, including living in the eligible community for nine of the previous twelve months ending on the payment date.) The Variable Fee Premium paid is an additional 11.32% for insured services provided in this community.

Rural, Remote, Northern Program (RRNP) - Please note, payments through the RRNP are capped at $60,000 per physician per year.

Medical Liability Reimbursement - reimburses physicians for their medical liability protection costs less a $1,000 deductible.

Continuing Medical Education - reimburses physicians for eligible continuing medical education costs. Each eligible physician receives a $2,656 annual allotment which can be carried forward for up to three years.

Parental Leave Program - provides $1,063 per week for up to 17 weeks to physician parents of a newborn or newly adopted child.

Business Cost Program - addresses escalating practice costs in community based practices. This fee modifier is added automatically to select office visits and consultations. This program applies across the province and all physicians who provide visit services in an office based setting will receive an additional $2.75 with the exception of Calgary and Airdrie where the fee modifier is $3.25 on select office visits and consultations.
