The Nanton Medical Clinic requires one full time family physician to join their community clinic. Ideal for a family physician wanting a rural lifestyle, dedicated to their community within specified clinic hours. This is a group practice supported by experienced office staff.

Job Description

The clinic requires 1 FTE physician to join their clinic under an ARP agreement. Ideal for a physician wanting a rural community, relaxed atmosphere with ‘down to earth’ people. Nanton Community Health Centre houses the physicians clinic, Nurse Practitioners, Public Health, Home Care and Laboratory services. The Physician panel will have a higher percentage of geriatric patients, with some complexity, due to the towns population.

The Town is presently planning a new clinic which will be attached to the Nanton Community Health Centre which will provide a spacious clinic space.

To the north 25 km is High River which has a 27 bed Acute Care, 50 Long Term Care, ER (20,000 patient visits/year), Low Risk Obstetrical Program (380 deliveries/year)and a busy surgical suite hospital.

Nanton attracts thousands of visitors each year with its unique attractions such as the Bomber Command Museum of Canada, Canadian Grain Elevator Discovery Centre, antique shops and one-of-a kind stores, special events and good old fashioned hospitality.

Nanton Community Health Centre operates under an Alternative Relationship Plan (ARP). The ARP supports 2.5 FTES’ Physicians. $340,000 to $350,000 / year (gross)

The physician is responsible for purchasing health and insurance benefits.

In partnership with the Alberta Medical Association, AHS helps facilitate the retention benefit program for physicians. This program is used to encourage retention by giving physicians a financial incentive based upon years of service.

Alberta Medical Association''''s Continuing Medical Education (CME) program reimburses physicians for expenses incurred during education sessions through an agreement between the Alberta Medical Association and Alberta Health. The annual allotment of $2,562.50 carries forward for three years.

Qualifications & Experience

The candidate must be eligible for Licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta and provide proof of malpractice insurance from The Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA).

Physician Agreement Incentives

A Flat Fee is paid to physicians who practice & reside in this community of $8200.00 per year provided his/her annual income for insured services is greater than $50,000. (Residency conditions apply, including living in the eligible community for nine of the previous twelve months ending on the payment date.) The Variable Fee Premium paid is an additional 0.00% for insured services provided in this community.

Rural, Remote, Northern Program (RRNP) - Please note, payments through the RRNP are capped at $60,000 per physician per year.

Retention Benefit - supports and promotes the retention of physicians in Alberta by rewarding their continuous years of service to Albertans. Physicians receive between $5,141 and $12,852 depending on their years of service to Albertans.

Medical Liability Reimbursement - reimburses physicians for their medical liability protection costs less a $1,000 deductible.

Continuing Medical Education - reimburses physicians for eligible continuing medical education costs. Each eligible physician receives a $2,656 annual allotment which can be carried forward for up to three years.

Parental Leave Program - provides $1,063 per week for up to 17 weeks to physician parents of a newborn or newly adopted child.

Business Cost Program - addresses escalating practice costs in community based practices. This fee modifier is added automatically to select office visits and consultations. This program applies across the province and all physicians who provide visit services in an office based setting will receive an additional $2.75 with the exception of Calgary and Airdrie where the fee modifier is $3.25 on select office visits and consultations.
