Job Description

Duties for this position include the provision of clinical service in the Section of Neurology and clinical teaching. As the Head of the Section of Neurology, the successful candidate will be expected to provide excellent management, visionary leadership and the ability to engage and work collaboratively with key stakeholders. Salary support will be through an Academic Medical Health Services Plan in Neurology, supported by Alberta Health, Alberta Health Services and the Cumming School of Medicine.

$420,000 to $480,000 per annum paid by AMHSP. Section Chief stipend an additional $68,000 per annum

Specialist On Call: $432 a day and 6-8 weeks on call

Benefits will be based on University Benefit Package Agreements

The Practitioner is responsible for purchasing health and insurance benefits.

The AMA, through the Continuing Medical Education (CME) program, reimburses eligible physicians for costs incurred with regard to the maintenance and enhancement of knowledge, skills and competency.

The annual allotment of $2656 carries forward for three years but expires on March 31 of the fourth year if not used.

Qualifications & Experience

Minimal qualifications include an MD, Royal College specialist certification (or equivalent) in Neurology, and eligibility for licensure in the Province of Alberta. Eligible applicants at the Associate Professor level must have demonstrated aptitude and evidence of leadership potential and, in addition, those at the Professor level already held leadership positions. An advanced degree in research or education (MSc or PhD) is desired, and a track record of participating in research, with demonstrated scholarship, is required. Desired candidates must have evidence of impactful peer-reviewed papers and demonstrated prior ability to establish a research or educational program, including evidence of external peer reviewed funding.

The candidate must be eligible for Licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta.

Physician Agreement Incentives

A Flat Fee is paid to physicians who practice & reside this community of $0 per year provided his/her annual income for insured services is greater than $50,000. (Residency conditions apply, including living in the eligible community for nine of the previous twelve months ending on the payment date.) The Variable Fee Premium paid is an additional 0% for insured services provided in this community.

Rural, Remote, Northern Program (RRNP) - Please note, payments through the RRNP are capped at $60,000 per physician per year.

Medical Liability Reimbursement - reimburses physicians for their medical liability protection costs less a $1,000 deductible.

Continuing Medical Education - reimburses physicians for eligible continuing medical education costs. Each eligible physician receives a $2,656 annual allotment which can be carried forward for up to three years.

Parental Leave Program - provides $1,063 per week for up to 17 weeks to physician parents of a newborn or newly adopted child.

Business Cost Program - addresses escalating practice costs in community based practices. This fee modifier is added automatically to select office visits and consultations. This program applies across the province and all physicians who provide visit services in an office based setting will receive an additional $2.75 with the exception of Calgary and Airdrie where the fee modifier is $3.25 on select office visits and consultations.
