The Division of Medical Physics provides clinical physics services at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre (TBCC) in Calgary. TBCC is a tertiary cancer centre offering a complete range of treatment options to more than 3400 patients per year. External beam radiotherapy is offered on nine Varian linear accelerators. TBCC has two CT simulators and access to MR and PET scanners. Treatment planning is performed primarily using the Eclipse TPS. The TBCC supports active clinical programs in SBRT, TBI, pediatric cancers and stereotactic radiosurgery. LDR and HDR brachytherapy programs treat prostate, breast, and gynecological cancers.
Construction on the new, full service Calgary Cancer Centre began November 2017. The new centre will have 15 radiation vaults, three operating rooms as well as CT, PET-CT and MR capabilities. The Division of Medical Physics is working with Radiation Oncology and Radiation Therapy to develop research and clinical centres of excellence. The successful applicant is expected to develop an original research program in clinically applied medical physics, attracting external grant support. The selected candidate may be eligible for a Tier 2 Canada Research Chair.
The Division of Medical Physics has a full complement of academic programs. The graduate program currently typically enrolls 8-12 MSc and PhD students at a time, with the majority of division members supervising or collaborating with students. The Post PhD Diploma (Residency) program has two residents enrolled. Programs are CAMPEP accredited and are run through the University of Calgary (www.ucalgary.ca/rop). There are twelve physicist positions at the TBCC within a total Medical Physics Department staff of 22. Clinical electronics, machine shop and computer applications group, as well as medical physicist fellows, support the clinical and academic mandate of the department.
The Remuneration will be calculated depending on the Rank of academic Salary, U of C dependent on qualifications and experience. This position is also subject to the Alberta Health Services – CancerControl Medical Physicists General Terms and Conditions of Employment. P5-5 AHS compensation rates ($123,480-181,000 per annum).

The Practitioner is responsible for purchasing health and insurance benefits.
Continuing Medical Education reimburses physicians for eligible continuing medical education costs. Each eligible Practitioner receives a $2,656 annual allotment which can be carried forward for three years.
Qualifications & Experience
Qualifications at the Associate Professor level include a PhD in Medical Physics, completion of an accredited residency program or equivalent and certification through the Canadian College of Physicists in Medicine with five to ten years of experience in Medical Physics field. Applicants at this level must present evidence of a strong publication record, indicated by the number, quality and authorship of publications, which should be commensurate with experience, and, leadership and development of an original research program, evidence of successful teaching and supervision, and evidence of established engagement in the academic community. Demonstrated commitment to the highest clinical standards and highly developed interpersonal, team work, organizational and leadership skills are also required.

A Flat Fee is paid to physicians who practice & reside this community of $0 per year provided his/her annual income for insured services is greater than $50,000. (Residency conditions apply, including living in the eligible community for nine of the previous twelve months ending on the payment date.) The Variable Fee Premium paid is an additional 0% for insured services provided in this community.
Rural, Remote, Northern Program (RRNP) - Please note, payments through the RRNP are capped at $60,000 per physician per year.
Medical Liability Reimbursement - reimburses physicians for their medical liability protection costs less a $1,000 deductible.
Continuing Medical Education - reimburses physicians for eligible continuing medical education costs. Each eligible physician receives a $2,656 annual allotment which can be carried forward for up to three years.
Parental Leave Program - provides $1,063 per week for up to 17 weeks to physician parents of a newborn or newly adopted child.
Business Cost Program - addresses escalating practice costs in community based practices. This fee modifier is added automatically to select office visits and consultations. This program applies across the province and all physicians who provide visit services in an office based setting will receive an additional $2.75 with the exception of Calgary and Airdrie where the fee modifier is $3.25 on select office visits and consultations.
