The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology is a core clinical service in the Calgary Zone of Alberta Health Services that has over 100 members who are national and international experts in women’s health. Clinical services are provided in six divisions.
In accordance with AHS’ Medical Staff Bylaws, vision, mission, and values, the Zone Clinical Department Head (ZCDH), Obstetrics & Gynaecology will lead and participate in the development of system wide clinical services throughout a large and diverse population that incorporates the growing urban centre of Calgary, as well as surrounding suburban and rural communities.
The ZCDH will maintain and recruit an appropriately trained physician workforce, ensure high standards of clinical care and ethical conduct of the medical staff, foster maintenance of competence and promote a learning environment for physicians, students, staff and researchers within the Zone. Furthermore, the ZCDH will participate in strategic planning for women’s health in both the clinical and academic context in conjunction with a province-wide Maternal Newborn, Child and Youth Strategic Clinical Network and also with the Surgical Strategic Clinical Network.
This position reports to the Calgary Zone Medical Director and Dean, Cumming School of Medicine. The ZCDH will work collaboratively the Zone Clinical Department Manager and Women’s Health senior operational leaders within the Zone. All other Calgary Zone medical leaders and physicians in Obstetrics & Gynaecology report to the ZCDH.

The AHS ZCDH position range of remuneration is $100,000 to $135,000. University academic position salary range is $103,020 to $170,000.
The Practitioner is responsible for purchasing health and insurance benefits.
Continuing Medical Education, provided by the Alberta Medical Association, reimburses physicians for eligible continuing medical education costs. Each eligible Practitioner receives a $2,656 annual allotment which can be carried forward for three years.

Qualifications & Experience
The candidate must be eligible for Licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta.
Must read, write and speak English.
All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply; however, Canadians and Permanent Residents will be given priority.
A Flat Fee is paid to physicians who practice & reside this community of $0 per year provided his/her annual income for insured services is greater than $50,000. (Residency conditions apply, including living in the eligible community for nine of the previous twelve months ending on the payment date.) The Variable Fee Premium paid is an additional 0% for insured services provided in this community.
Rural, Remote, Northern Program (RRNP) - Please note, payments through the RRNP are capped at $60,000 per physician per year.
Retention Benefit - supports and promotes the retention of physicians in Alberta by rewarding their continuous years of service to Albertans. Physicians receive between $5,141 and $12,852 depending on their years of service to Albertans.
Medical Liability Reimbursement - reimburses physicians for their medical liability protection costs less a $1,000 deductible.
Continuing Medical Education - reimburses physicians for eligible continuing medical education costs. Each eligible physician receives a $2,656 annual allotment which can be carried forward for up to three years.
Parental Leave Program - provides $1,063 per week for up to 17 weeks to physician parents of a newborn or newly adopted child.
Business Cost Program - addresses escalating practice costs in community based practices. This fee modifier is added automatically to select office visits and consultations. This program applies across the province and all physicians who provide visit services in an office based setting will receive an additional $2.75 with the exception of Calgary and Airdrie where the fee modifier is $3.25 on select office visits and consultations.
