This is an exciting opportunity for a visionary medical leader in Oncology to guide the clinical and academic Department of Oncology and provide the medical leadership for the new comprehensive cancer centre under construction (see virtual tour at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mky-ESmPBgc and information at https://www.albertahealthservices.ca/info/page15399.aspx). This cancer centre will be the largest in Canada and will combine research and clinical activities across the cancer experience with a focus on patient- and family-centered care. This facility is state-of-the art and brings together researchers and health professionals from Alberta Health Services and the University of Calgary.
We are seeking an energetic, experienced and enthusiastic leader who can implement and expand upon our strategic plans for the Department of Oncology (https://departmentofoncology.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/2017-2025-Strategic-Report-Final.pdf), Cumming School of Medicine, University of Calgary and the Tom Baker Cancer Centre (TBCC), CancerControl Alberta (CCA), AHS to meet current and future challenges of cancer care delivery and leading edge research. Working with a highly motivated and talented team of senior leaders in Oncology and a dyad partner within CCA, this individual will be responsible for academic activities in the Department of Oncology and operational and strategic issues in overseeing the delivery of high-quality, patient focused cancer care for southern Alberta. This position also has leadership responsibilities within the Calgary Zone of AHS, one of the five zones in Alberta through which care is delivered.
This leader is actively involved in the entire spectrum of cancer services within the TBCC and the Calgary Zone including ambulatory and acute care. The leader fulfills the duties and responsibilities assigned to Zone Clinical Department Heads by the AHS Medical Staff Bylaws and Rules as they pertain to the Calgary Zone Clinical Department of Oncology. In addition to TBCC / Calgary Zone-specific responsibilities, this leader as Associate Senior Medical Director has a senior leadership role in CCA, developing and implementing provincial cancer control strategies, and ensuring clinical operations coordination across the province. This leader reports to the Senior Medical Director, CancerControl Alberta, the Calgary Zone Medical Director and the Dean, Cumming School of Medicine. All other TBCC / Calgary Zone CancerControl medical leaders and physicians report to this leader.

Qualifications & Experience
The candidate must be eligible for Licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta.
Must read, write and speak English. All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply; however, Canadians and Permanent Residents will be given priority.
A Flat Fee is paid to physicians who practice & reside this community of $0 per year provided his/her annual income for insured services is greater than $50,000. (Residency conditions apply, including living in the eligible community for nine of the previous twelve months ending on the payment date.) The Variable Fee Premium paid is an additional 0% for insured services provided in this community.
Rural, Remote, Northern Program (RRNP) - Please note, payments through the RRNP are capped at $60,000 per physician per year.
Medical Liability Reimbursement - reimburses physicians for their medical liability protection costs less a $1,000 deductible.
Continuing Medical Education - reimburses physicians for eligible continuing medical education costs. Each eligible physician receives a $2,656 annual allotment which can be carried forward for up to three years.
Parental Leave Program - provides $1,063 per week for up to 17 weeks to physician parents of a newborn or newly adopted child.
Business Cost Program - addresses escalating practice costs in community based practices. This fee modifier is added automatically to select office visits and consultations. This program applies across the province and all physicians who provide visit services in an office based setting will receive an additional $2.75 with the exception of Calgary and Airdrie where the fee modifier is $3.25 on select office visits and consultations.
