Job Description

Vascular Surgeon
Edmonton, Alberta
- 1 POSITION -
16-GNCH-SUR-VAS-25

Covenant Health, in partnership with Alberta Health Services and the University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, Department of Surgery, invites applications for two Vascular Surgeons to be based primarily at the Northern Alberta Vascular Centre (NAVC), at the Grey Nuns Hospital in Edmonton, Alberta.

Located in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, the Faculty has been internationally recognized as among the world’s top 50 medical schools and as one of Canada’s premier health-education institutions. Alberta Health Services is Canada’s largest and only provincial health region providing services for a population of over 4.2 million people, with the vascular services of NAVC covering 2.3 million people in Northern Alberta and the Territories.

Covenant Health works with Alberta Health Services and community partners to positively influence the health of Albertans through a broad range of programs and services in our hospitals, health centres and continuing care centres. In 2007 it was decided to regionalize vascular services to the Grey Nuns Hospital. Covenant Health is Canada’s largest Catholic provider of health care, with 22 Catholic facilities in 14 communities across Alberta.

NAVC is a fully equipped vascular program with a dedicated vascular ward, brand new step-down unit, full ICU/CCU services, dialysis unit, and a full service, complimentary vascular radiology department. Clinical work is supported by a full-time Clinical Associate and in-house night-time physician extenders, who provide exceptional 24/7 coverage of the Vascular ward and Emergency Department. Resident training is an integral part of the program and includes trainees from cardiac, general, orthopedic and urologic surgery. Alberta has a very competitive fee schedule. In addition, our group believes in an equitable division of resources, with no "seniority" rules. OR time and outpatient department time is ample and equally distributed to all members.

The successful candidate will complement a team of fellowship-trained vascular surgeons to provide vascular consultative services to the Edmonton Zone and Northern Alberta. The NAVC at the Grey Nuns covers the full spectrum of vascular disease, including an established thoracic and abdominal endovascular aortic program. Two integrated operative/endovascular suites with fixed imaging are proceeding through the planning stages, allowing the progressive utilization of new endovascular technologies. All members will need to do arterial reconstructions (aortic, peripheral and trauma), aneurysm repair, carotid surgery, amputations and dialysis access surgery. Particular consideration will be given to candidates with additional training in advanced endovascular techniques, including aortic fenestrated and branch grafting.
The successful candidate will be an MD with certification in Vascular Surgery with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA). Remuneration will be based on the Fee-for-Service (FFS) schedule.

The successful applicant will be expected to apply for a Clinical Academic Colleague Appointment in the Department of Surgery, University of Alberta, which will be considered under a separate process through the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry.

Interested candidates are asked to submit a letter of intent, curriculum vitae and three references to:
