Covenant Health, in partnership with Alberta Health Services and the University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, invites applications for the position of General Psychiatrist within the Department of Addictions & Mental Health at the Grey Nuns Community Hospital in Edmonton, Alberta.

Located in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, the Faculty has been internationally recognized as among the world’s top 50 medical schools and as one of Canada’s premier health-education institutions. Alberta Health Services is Canada’s largest and only provincial health region providing services for a population of over 4.2 million people.
Covenant Health is Canada’s largest Catholic provider of health care, with 22 Catholic facilities in 14 communities across Alberta. As a major provider in Alberta’s integrated health system, Covenant Health works with Alberta Health Services and community partners to positively influence the health of Albertans through a broad range of programs and services in our hospitals, health centres and continuing care centres.

In collaboration with their colleagues, the successful candidate will deliver inpatient care and consultation services to hospital patients, patients presenting to the Emergency Department and will provide consultation services to local family practices and PCNs. This position participates in the program’s on-call in-patient schedule while maintaining a community-based practice. Remuneration is based on a fee-for service basis and is highly competitive with other North American jurisdictions.

Registration with the College of Physicians & Surgeons of Alberta, application for clinical faculty appointment through the University of Alberta’s Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, and appointment to the Edmonton Zone Medical Staff is expected. Certification in Licentiate of the Medical Council of Canada (LMCC) and FRCPC (Psychiatry) is required.

Remuneration will be based on the Fee-for-Service (FFS) schedule. The successful applicant will be required to participate in the teaching program (Residents and Students) and will be expected to apply for a Clinical Academic Colleague Appointment in the Department of Psychiatry, University of Alberta, which will be considered under a separate process through the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry. An interest in participating in various hospital committees and sharing some hospital administrative duties would be a definite asset.

AHS Sponsorship for CPSA Practice Readiness Assessment is not offered for this position.

Physician Agreement Incentives

A Flat Fee is paid to physicians who practice & reside this community of $0 per year provided his/her annual income for insured services is greater than $50,000. (Residency conditions apply, including living in the eligible community for nine of the previous twelve months ending on the payment date.) The Variable Fee Premium paid is an additional 0% for insured services provided in this community.

Rural, Remote, Northern Program (RRNP) - Please note, payments through the RRNP are capped at $60,000 per physician per year.

Retention Benefit - supports and promotes the retention of physicians in Alberta by rewarding their continuous years of service to Albertans. Physicians receive between $5,141 and $12,852 depending on their years of service to Albertans.

Medical Liability Reimbursement - reimburses physicians for their medical liability protection costs less a $1,000 deductible.

Continuing Medical Education - reimburses physicians for eligible continuing medical education costs. Each eligible physician receives a $2,656 annual allotment which can be carried forward for up to three years.

Parental Leave Program - provides $1,063 per week for up to 17 weeks to physician parents of a newborn or newly adopted child.

Business Cost Program - addresses escalating practice costs in community based practices. This fee modifier is added automatically to select office visits and consultations. This program applies across the province and all physicians who provide visit services in an office based setting will receive an additional $2.75 with the exception of Calgary and Airdrie where the fee modifier is $3.25 on select office visits and consultations.
