Job Description

Assistant / Associate Professor - Developmental Pediatrics
The University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, in partnership with Alberta Health Services (AHS) invites applicants to apply for a contingent tenure or tenure track position of Assistant Professor/Associate Professor within the Division of Developmental Pediatrics, located at the Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital. This appointment is a 1.0 FTE, with a position description profile of 25% clinical, 45% teaching (10% classroom and 35% clinical), 20% research and 10% administrative duties.
The successful applicant will join the Division of Developmental Pediatrics, comprised of developmental pediatricians, pediatric rehabilitation medicine specialists, child psychiatrists, psychologists and a pediatric nurse practitioner, in providing interdisciplinary care for children with a variety of developmental disabilities. The Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital offers inpatient and outpatient assessment and services for children with cognitive and motor disabilities, including learning disabilities, intellectual disability, ADHD, speech-language disorders, autism, FASD, cerebral palsy, and acquired brain injuries. In a family centered environment, children are treated by a comprehensive team of allied professionals. A group of pediatricians, physiatrists, and developmental pediatricians provide medical coverage for outpatient specialty clinics and a 10 bed tertiary Pediatric Intensive Rehabilitation Inpatient 24 hour care program.
In addition to clinical care, the division is active in teaching at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and has a fully accredited Developmental Pediatrics subspecialty-training program through the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. The successful applicant will engage with trainees from this program as well as with General Pediatric residents and elective medical students. There are many opportunities for both classroom-based and clinical teaching as well as for developing skills in Developmental Pediatric medical education.
The primary clinical and academic responsibilites associated with the role will be to related to the clinical and academic leadership in the Complex Pediatrics Therapies Follow-up Program (CPTFP), which includes active follow-up of young children who have undergone complex/invasive therapies, and collaborative research activities. The division is home to a number of other active research programs providing opportunities for additional academic pursuits.
The ideal applicant must hold an MD and must have completed a specialty residency in Developmental Pediatrics and be certified by or eligible to become a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC), with preference to those specialists with graduate-level research training and experience in developmental follow-up as well as prior experience in managing developmental programs or services. Physician Agreement Incentives

A Flat Fee is paid to physicians who practice & reside this community of $0 per year provided his/her annual income for insured services is greater than $50,000. (Residency conditions apply, including living in the eligible community for nine of the previous twelve months ending on the payment date.) The Variable Fee Premium paid is an additional 0% for insured services provided in this community.

Rural, Remote, Northern Program (RRNP) - Please note, payments through the RRNP are capped at $60,000 per physician per year.

Retention Benefit - supports and promotes the retention of physicians in Alberta by rewarding their continuous years of service to Albertans. Physicians receive between $5,141 and $12,852 depending on their years of service to Albertans.

Medical Liability Reimbursement - reimburses physicians for their medical liability protection costs less a $1,000 deductible.

Continuing Medical Education - reimburses physicians for eligible continuing medical education costs. Each eligible physician receives a $2,656 annual allotment which can be carried forward for up to three years.

Parental Leave Program - provides $1,063 per week for up to 17 weeks to physician parents of a newborn or newly adopted child.

Business Cost Program - addresses escalating practice costs in community based practices. This fee modifier is added automatically to select office visits and consultations. This program applies across the province and all physicians who provide visit services in an office based setting will receive an additional $2.75 with the exception of Calgary and Airdrie where the fee modifier is $3.25 on select office visits and consultations.
