The University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, Department of Medicine, Division of Neurology invites applications for an academic Movement Disorders physician to be based at the University of Alberta Hospital. The successful applicant will have a major clinical focus, dedicating at least 50% of their time to clinical activity including novel clinical program development in an area that aligns with the existing strengths of the University, Faculty, Department and Division. The successful candidate will have excellent Movement Disorders fellowship training beyond Neurology training. Evidence of scholarly activity (research, publications, successful grant applications or clinical program development) will be required.
Located in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, the Faculty has been internationally recognized as among the world’s top 50 medical schools and as one of Canada’s premier health-education institutions. The University is currently home to 39,000 students and 15,000 faculty and staff. The Division of Neurology currently has 27 Faculty members. It provides clinical services to all acute care facilities in Edmonton, and consultative services to Northern Alberta and western NWT. The Movement Disorders Program has 7 neurologists with active basic science and clinical research as well as an active Deep Brain Stimulation Program.
The successful candidate will be an MD with certification in Neurology by the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada (or equivalent), and be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA).
Key accountabilities will include, but will not be limited to: clinical practice of inpatient and ambulatory care in Adult Neurology, classroom and bedside teaching of undergraduate and postgraduate medical trainees, including Neurology subspecialty residents and Movement Disorders fellows. Clinical practice is expected of the successful candidate and may include, but not be limited to, inpatient consultation and participation in Zone wide after hours call; ambulatory care. Other areas of clinical interest may be incorporated into the role.
The successful candidate will be offered a contingent tenured or tenure-track appointment in the Department of Medicine, which is in accordance with the University of Alberta Faculty Agreement, and offers a comprehensive benefits package. Academic rank will commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience.
Remuneration for this position is based on the Academic Alternative Relationship Plan (A-ARP). Salary will be commensurate with education and experience. ($336,130 - $472,130)

A Flat Fee is paid to physicians who practice & reside this community of $0 per year provided his/her annual income for insured services is greater than $50,000. (Residency conditions apply, including living in the eligible community for nine of the previous twelve months ending on the payment date.) The Variable Fee Premium paid is an additional 0% for insured services provided in this community.
Rural, Remote, Northern Program (RRNP) - Please note, payments through the RRNP are capped at $60,000 per physician per year.
Retention Benefit - supports and promotes the retention of physicians in Alberta by rewarding their continuous years of service to Albertans. Physicians receive between $5,141 and $12,852 depending on their years of service to Albertans.
Medical Liability Reimbursement - reimburses physicians for their medical liability protection costs less a $1,000 deductible.
Continuing Medical Education - reimburses physicians for eligible continuing medical education costs. Each eligible physician receives a $2,656 annual allotment which can be carried forward for up to three years.
Parental Leave Program - provides $1,063 per week for up to 17 weeks to physician parents of a newborn or newly adopted child.
Business Cost Program - addresses escalating practice costs in community based practices. This fee modifier is added automatically to select office visits and consultations. This program applies across the province and all physicians who provide visit services in an office based setting will receive an additional $2.75 with the exception of Calgary and Airdrie where the fee modifier is $3.25 on select office visits and consultations.
