Clinical Academic Position for Nephrologist

The University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, Department of Medicine, Division of Nephrology in partnership with Alberta Health Services invites applications for Clinical Academic Nephrologist to be based at the University of Alberta. Located in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, the Faculty has been internationally recognized as among the world’s top 50 medical schools and as one of Canada’s premier health-education institutions. The University is currently home to more than 38,000 students with more than 15,000 faculty and staff.

The Division of Nephrology and Immunology at the University of Albert is a dynamic and research intensive Division. Clinical care delivery spans all aspects of Nephrology with a traditional emphasis on hemodialysis and on renal transplantation. Innovations in care delivery is a priority of our division, while our research spans the spectrum from fundamental and translational work through epidemiology and health services research. The Division considers education a high priority and provides leadership to the educational and administrative activities of the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, and Alberta Health Services.

The successful candidate will be an MD (or equivalent) with certification in Nephrology with the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada or an International equivalent, and be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA).

Our division values all pillars of academic clinical medicine: innovation in care delivery, education and state of the art research. We are looking for a colleague to join us from a clinical perspective in this dynamic environment.

Key accountabilities of the Clinical A-ARP Assistant Professor, Nephrology will include, but will not be limited to outpatient general nephrology clinics in Edmonton and Rural Northern Alberta, inpatient/consult service, home dialysis, satellite hemodialysis coverage and could include renal transplantation.

The successful applicant will be expected to apply for a Clinical Academic Colleague Appointment in the Department of Medicine, University of Alberta, which will be considered under a separate process through the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry.

Remuneration for this position is based on the Academic Alternative Relationship Plan (A-ARP). Salary will be commensurate with education and experience.

Physician Agreement Incentives

A Flat Fee is paid to physicians who practice & reside this community of $0 per year provided his/her annual income for insured services is greater than $50,000. (Residency conditions apply, including living in the eligible community for nine of the previous twelve months ending on the payment date.) The Variable Fee Premium paid is an additional 0% for insured services provided in this community.

Rural, Remote, Northern Program (RRNP) - Please note, payments through the RRNP are capped at $60,000 per physician per year.

Retention Benefit - supports and promotes the retention of physicians in Alberta by rewarding their continuous years of service to Albertans. Physicians receive between $5,141 and $12,852 depending on their years of service to Albertans.

Medical Liability Reimbursement - reimburses physicians for their medical liability protection costs less a $1,000 deductible.

Continuing Medical Education - reimburses physicians for eligible continuing medical education costs. Each eligible physician receives a $2,656 annual allotment which can be carried forward for up to three years.

Parental Leave Program - provides $1,063 per week for up to 17 weeks to physician parents of a newborn or newly adopted child.

Business Cost Program - addresses escalating practice costs in community based practices. This fee modifier is added automatically to select office visits and consultations. This program applies across the province and all physicians who provide visit services in an office based setting will receive an additional $2.75 with the exception of Calgary and Airdrie where the fee modifier is $3.25 on select office visits and consultations.
