The successful candidate will be offered a contingent tenured or tenure-track appointment at the rank of Assistant, Associate or full Professor in the Department of Medicine, which is in accordance with the University of Alberta Faculty Agreement.
The University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, Department of Medicine, Division of Nephrology in partnership with Alberta Health Services invites applications for an Academic position in Nephrology to be based at the University of Alberta. Located in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, the Faculty has been internationally recognized as among the world’s top 50 medical schools and as one of Canada’s premier health-education institutions. The University is currently home to 39,000 students with more 15,000 faculty and staff.
The Division of Nephrology and Immunology at the University of Albert is a research intensive Division currently with 9 CIHR funded investigators. Research spans the spectrum from fundamental and translational work through epidemiology and health services research in general nephrology and transplantation immunology. The Division considers education a high priority and provides leadership to the educational and administrative activities of the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, and Alberta Health Services.
The successful candidate will be an MD (or equivalent) with certification in Nephrology with the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada or equivalent, be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA). Successful candidates will demonstrate a clear research profile, preferably with specialized, formal research training (MSc or PhD). Individuals interested in the education of trainees and/or expertise in clinical innovation are also encouraged to apply.
Priority areas for recruitment include transplantation research, quality improvement and patient safety, basic science and translational research. Although successful applicants will be expected to be clinically proficient in all areas of nephrology, additional training in clinical transplantation would be an asset.
Remuneration for this position is based on the Academic Alternative Relationship Plan (A-ARP), which offer a very competitive remuneration package with excellent benefits.

Qualifications & Experience
- Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (desired)
A Flat Fee is paid to physicians who practice & reside this community of $0 per year provided his/her annual income for insured services is greater than $50,000. (Residency conditions apply, including living in the eligible community for nine of the previous twelve months ending on the payment date.) The Variable Fee Premium paid is an additional 0% for insured services provided in this community.
Rural, Remote, Northern Program (RRNP) - Please note, payments through the RRNP are capped at $60,000 per physician per year.
Retention Benefit - supports and promotes the retention of physicians in Alberta by rewarding their continuous years of service to Albertans. Physicians receive between $5,141 and $12,852 depending on their years of service to Albertans.
Medical Liability Reimbursement - reimburses physicians for their medical liability protection costs less a $1,000 deductible.
Continuing Medical Education - reimburses physicians for eligible continuing medical education costs. Each eligible physician receives a $2,656 annual allotment which can be carried forward for up to three years.
Parental Leave Program - provides $1,063 per week for up to 17 weeks to physician parents of a newborn or newly adopted child.
Business Cost Program - addresses escalating practice costs in community based practices. This fee modifier is added automatically to select office visits and consultations. This program applies across the province and all physicians who provide visit services in an office based setting will receive an additional $2.75 with the exception of Calgary and Airdrie where the fee modifier is $3.25 on select office visits and consultations.
