The Department of Oncology, Division of Medical Oncology at the Cross Cancer Institute (CCI), with Alberta Health Services – CancerControl, and the Division of Neurology, University of Alberta, requires a neuro-oncologist. Located in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, the Faculty is internationally recognized as among the world’s top 50 medical schools and as one of Canada’s premier health-education institutions. Alberta Health Services is Canada’s largest and only provincial health region providing services for a population of over 3 million people.
The successful applicant will join a team multidisciplinary team caring for patients with CNS malignancies as well as participating in patient care within the Division of Neurology. The CNS malignancy work will be based at the Cross Cancer Institute within the Division of Medical Oncology and will constitute a 0.5 FTE time commitment. The Cross Cancer Institute, Edmonton Zone currently has 25 medical oncologists on staff working within the systemic treatment area and involved in research, teaching and patient care. The balance of time will be spent within the Division of Neurology providing neurologic care for non-cancer patients as determined by the Division Director of Neurology. The role is based on a fee for service remuneration model for the 0.5 FTE commitment to Neurology. Key accountabilities in Neurology will include, but will not be limited to: clinical practice of inpatient and ambulatory care in Adult Neurology, classroom and bedside teaching of undergraduate and postgraduate medical trainees, including Neurology subspecialty residents. Clinical practice is expected of the successful candidate and may include, but not be limited to, inpatient consultation and care with participation in Zone wide after hours call; ambulatory care. Other areas of clinical interest may be incorporated into the role.
The Cross Cancer Institute is a free-standing integrated cancer treatment and research facility that functions as the tertiary oncology referral centre for Northern Alberta. It has a strong record of basic and translational research as well as clinical trial activity in oncology.
Qualifications include an MD, board certified in Internal Medicine and Neurology, and eligibility for licensure in the Province of Alberta.

Qualifications & Experience

A Flat Fee is paid to physicians who practice & reside this community of $0 per year provided his/her annual income for insured services is greater than $50,000. (Residency conditions apply, including living in the eligible community for nine of the previous twelve months ending on the payment date.) The Variable Fee Premium paid is an additional 0% for insured services provided in this community.
Rural, Remote, Northern Program (RRNP) - Please note, payments through the RRNP are capped at $60,000 per physician per year.
Retention Benefit - supports and promotes the retention of physicians in Alberta by rewarding their continuous years of service to Albertans. Physicians receive between $5,141 and $12,852 depending on their years of service to Albertans.
Medical Liability Reimbursement - reimburses physicians for their medical liability protection costs less a $1,000 deductible.
Continuing Medical Education - reimburses physicians for eligible continuing medical education costs. Each eligible physician receives a $2,656 annual allotment which can be carried forward for up to three years.
Parental Leave Program - provides $1,063 per week for up to 17 weeks to physician parents of a newborn or newly adopted child.
Business Cost Program - addresses escalating practice costs in community based practices. This fee modifier is added automatically to select office visits and consultations. This program applies across the province and all physicians who provide visit services in an office based setting will receive an additional $2.75 with the exception of Calgary and Airdrie where the fee modifier is $3.25 on select office visits and consultations.
