Job Description

Clinical Gastroenterologist with Special Expertise in IBD
The University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, Division of Gastroenterology, in partnership with Alberta Health Services, invites applications for an Academic Clinical Track Gastroenterologist with special expertise in IBD.
Located in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry is one of Canada’s premier health-education institutions and has been internationally recognized as among the world’s top 50 medical schools. The Division of Gastroenterology in the Department of Medicine currently has 20 MD members and is one of the largest GI and hepatology centers in Canada. It manages a leading-edge research program involving 45 graduate and undergraduate students, over 3 million dollars in basic and clinical research funding annually and has developed the Center of Excellence in Gastrointestinal Inflammation and Immunity Research. As a major referral centre, the Division of Gastroenterology at the University of Alberta Hospital has a highly specialized consultation and advanced therapeutic endoscopy facility, a state-of-the-art in-patient unit and highly skilled gastroenterologists, hepatologists and gastrointestinal scientists.
The GI Division is recruiting for an academic gastroenterologist with special expertise in IBD. The GI Division at the University of Alberta is an internationally recognized center of excellence in the management of inflammatory bowel disease patients. It manages the care of over 3000 IBD patients and provides expert advice to a catchment area of 1.6 million people. The position will include involvement in inpatient ward, consultation and outpatient GI clinic service. The expected start date is no later than July 1st 2017 .The job will involve a minimum of 75% of clinical work in luminal GI as well as IBD involving inpatient ward and outpatient consultations with the remainder spent on teaching, administration and research.
Candidates must hold an MD or equivalent with completed training in Gastroenterology and must be eligible for licensure within the Province of Alberta. They must have obtained the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons Fellowship in Gastroenterology or equivalent. Extra research and/or clinical training of at least one year in IBD are a requirement.
The successful applicant will be expected to apply for a Clinical Academic Colleague Appointment in the Department of Medicine, University of Alberta, which will be considered under a separate process through the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry.
Remuneration for this position is based on the Academic Alternative Relationship Plan (A-ARP). Salary will be commensurate with education and experience.($366,130 - $472,130)

Physician Agreement Incentives

A Flat Fee is paid to physicians who practice & reside this community of $0 per year provided his/her annual income for insured services is greater than $50,000. (Residency conditions apply, including living in the eligible community for nine of the previous twelve months ending on the payment date.) The Variable Fee Premium paid is an additional 0% for insured services provided in this community.

Rural, Remote, Northern Program (RRNP) - Please note, payments through the RRNP are capped at $60,000 per physician per year.

Retention Benefit - supports and promotes the retention of physicians in Alberta by rewarding their continuous years of service to Albertans. Physicians receive between $5,141 and $12,852 depending on their years of service to Albertans.

Medical Liability Reimbursement - reimburses physicians for their medical liability protection costs less a $1,000 deductible.

Continuing Medical Education - reimburses physicians for eligible continuing medical education costs. Each eligible physician receives a $2,656 annual allotment which can be carried forward for up to three years.

Parental Leave Program - provides $1,063 per week for up to 17 weeks to physician parents of a newborn or newly adopted child.

Business Cost Program - addresses escalating practice costs in community based practices. This fee modifier is added automatically to select office visits and consultations. This program applies across the province and all physicians who provide visit services in an office based setting will receive an additional $2.75 with the exception of Calgary and Airdrie where the fee modifier is $3.25 on select office visits and consultations.
