Job Description

Outpatient and inpatient neurology and participation in Division academic activities including provision of hospital ward and consult service in a tertiary care environment both with and without residents.

Outpatient clinical work in the movement disorders clinic and in general neurology.

Development of an independent academic research program in movement disorders that is complementary to the resources available is a requirement.

Qualifications & Experience

The candidate must be eligible for Licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta.

Must read, write and speak English.

We are seeking a neurologist whose primary clinical interest is in movement disorders and has an interest and training to be successful in an academic environment and will contribute to our academic programs (research and education).

Training must include completion of a movement disorders fellowship. Specialized skills in procedures related to the management of people with movement disorders, including use of botulinum toxin for dystonia and hemi-facial spasm are required.

Minimum prior productivity for a candidate who is within the first 3 years of their independent career is 15 peer reviewed published manuscripts. At least 7 must be in the area of movement disorders and at least 7 must have been published within the last 3 years. More senior candidates must demonstrate they have had continuing academic productivity of similar magnitude.

The candidate must provide evidence that they have the skill to develop an independent academic research program in movement disorders. The candidate must therefore have previously developed and led research projects, possibly under supervision, where they initiated, developed, led and completed the project.

The successful candidate will become a member of the Division of Neurology Academic Alternative Relationship Plan and will have an academic appointment with the University of Calgary, Cumming School of Medicine, and the Department of Clinical Neurosciences.

We are seeking an individual with proven clinical excellence and a record of working well within a team.

The ability to participate fully in the Calgary City-Wide call schedule is a requirement.

Availability by September 2017 is required.

Physician Agreement Incentives

A Flat Fee is paid to physicians who practice & reside this community of $0 per year provided his/her annual income for insured services is greater than $50,000. (Residency conditions apply, including living in the eligible community for nine of the previous twelve months ending on the payment date.) The Variable Fee Premium paid is an additional 0% for insured services provided in this community.

Rural, Remote, Northern Program (RRNP) - Please note, payments through the RRNP are capped at $60,000 per physician per year.

Retention Benefit - supports and promotes the retention of physicians in Alberta by rewarding their continuous years of service to Albertans. Physicians receive between $5,141 and $12,852 depending on their years of service to Albertans.

Medical Liability Reimbursement - reimburses physicians for their medical liability protection costs less a $1,000 deductible.

Continuing Medical Education - reimburses physicians for eligible continuing medical education costs. Each eligible physician receives a $2,656 annual allotment which can be carried forward for up to three years.

Parental Leave Program - provides $1,063 per week for up to 17 weeks to physician parents of a newborn or newly adopted child.

Business Cost Program - addresses escalating practice costs in community based practices. This fee modifier is added automatically to select office visits and consultations. This program applies across the province and all physicians who provide visit services in an office based setting will receive an additional $2.75 with the exception of Calgary and Airdrie where the fee modifier is $3.25 on select office visits and consultations.
